After our move from San Diego to Boston, we knew we would be in a smaller apartment in downtown so we donated a few furniture pieces before we made the move. Due to our plan on again moving  in November to a new place (I say this, but as of now everything is up in the air on what we are going to be doing or where we will be living).  Ah, the unknown. So for now, we are focusing on adding pieces to our house that we know will work in any space.

Our new rug from West Elm is one of my favorites – I love it because it’s a mix of jute and chenille which makes it durable, yet very soft. The color is a perfect neutral.

I am so obsessed with our new Bolen Arc Lamp from Kenroy Home – it seems like every apartment we move into is lacking in the overhead lighting department (I get it, it saves the property manager money….but it’s very frustrating for the tenant). So we have to find floor and table lamps that will give direct and ambient lighting. This floor lamp brings A LOT of light to the space and the height creates a pendant-like feeling. Kenroy Home has recently been introduced to me and their lighting and mirrors are to die for! As an interior designer, I constantly am changing and rearranging every space in my home. And I tell you what, it’s very difficult to select pieces for my own home. It’s probably because I see so much and love too many things –  I am just holding off until I am ready to make myself my own client.  But, it’s all coming together nicely with the few additions we’ve made! We need another sofa or an occasional chair to replace the spot the molded chair is holding. The back wall needs some fun art – but it’s a concrete wall so we might just leave it bare for now. Gosh, so many things could happen in here and I can’t wait to show you guys the progress.

Thank you for responding. Another question. Is it OK to mix metals in a room? For example, the legs on my couch are brushed steel, but my current lamp is brushed nickel. That’s why I’m looking at this Bolen lamp cause it’s steel as well and would match more, but do you think my brushed nickel lamp is OK with the brushed steel or is that bad designer etiquette?

Hi Jennie!

I definitely approve mixing metals – I think the “rules” on making every single metal and finish match is no longer. 🙂

I even enjoy mixing woods.

Hope this helps!

Hi, what does the bottom of the arc lamp shade look like?

It’s actually open – there isn’t a shade so I used an edison bulb so it wouldn’t be too harsh of light and add some interest.

Hope this helps 🙂 Thank you for stopping by, Jennie.

I second Vanessa, Mary needs some updates friend! 😉

Beautiful!!! And omg moving again??? You need to update me!

Thanks lady!! And we signed a year contract and it all depends on if we are moving back to San Diego or if we are staying here. We want to move into a place we can call home and really settle down. Haha I feel like we have just been moving for the past year. I will update you!!
