As I was driving home last night after a goodbye dinner at Urban Solace with Vanessa, Chelsea and Conni – I first started to think about how much I am going to miss all of my friends here in San Diego while we are in Boston. I also started to think about one of our conversations during the dinner that really stuck out to me. We were talking about how, as bloggers, it’s so easy for us create this “perfect life” we lead on the internet. And there are times when we meet a blogger we follow, we are hoping they are exactly how we perceive them through their blog…but in some cases we get let down.

Now this conversation made me think about my blog and if what I am writing and documenting is genuine and true to who I am as a person. While I believe I am exactly the same in person as I am writing on my blog, I believe I do not provide enough posts with the challenges and fears that happen along the journey, you know…real life stuff. When life throws us a curve ball and we learn how to overcome that hardship – that is how we really connect as human beings. Of course, we don’t want to immediately admit to struggle and our fears but it’s ultimately what makes us human so what are we so afraid of…right?

be the person

I recently watched Megan Gilger’s 2013 Circle Conference Talk and while I already knew how much I respected Megan as a blogger and person, it was such a great reminder to how she stays true to herself and her dreams. It was inspiring and just…perfect. I strongly encourage you to watch it when you have about 45 minutes to sit down and reflect.

In honor of being authentic on my blog – I have decided to share 5 things I have struggled with recently:

1. I was not prepared at all to move…so when the movers came to pack everything up, I felt very unorganized and I still have a car full of things that I have to figure out what to do with today.

2. I have put writing my thank you notes from my bridal shower and wedding on the back burner and I feel guilty I haven’t started them.

3. I have literally worn the same outfit 3 times in the past week because it’s so easy and I don’t have to think about putting together an outfit.

4. I wasn’t able to pay one of my vendors for our wedding till this week, because I mailed the check to a wrong address. I felt terrible that they waited a month to receive payment.

5. Our processes for With Love, Design- because we have all had a million things on our plates in the last year and didn’t take on many freelance clients, I feel like we haven’t refined the way we work with our clients and now that things have settled down I hope to really work on the process of when you receive an inquiry to the finished product.

I hope you all are staying true to yourself and learning your mistakes are only something you can use to be better and do better. I will be reflecting today on how much I have enjoyed living in San Diego so far and soaking in the 70 degree weather before I head to Boston tomorrow.

you never leave

This was a beautiful post, Jess. Your post was a breath of the air of reality and I was happy to read it today. Hugs and love to you.

Thank you love!! Going to miss you. 🙂

So glad you loved the talk! It is never easy to be real but it feels good when the right moments come along! Good luck with the move. Moving ain’t pretty and it makes you feel pretty vulnerable and completely out of control. I know after just doing it. After a month things are finally feeling normal again. I hope you find peace in all chaos and know it is real and okay. 🙂

It was fantastic – thank you for sharing it! Thank you so much for your kind words and encouragement. Hope all is well and look forward to keeping up with you guys! xo

I love this post! Thanks for making it. It so true what you said about overcoming hardship and connecting with people.
We only met once but you were so warm and welcoming. I wish you and your husband the best in Boston.

Hi Carling!

Thank you so much 🙂 It was so great to be able to meet you at CCSD a while back. I hope you are enjoying the Holiday season and send you the best of luck with all of your endeavors!
